Day 21 May 22

Day 21 May 22 Sunday

Last evening we had a very intense thunder & lightning storm which moved in around 11:30pm. This moved on by morning and helped drop the temperature to mid Twenties with a breeze which made the walk today much more pleasant.

As is the normal the towns look deserted when we leave in the mornings save a few pilgrims escaping as are we.

You will see a massive irrigation unit which is quite common as one style which is motorized to either move radially or this unit traverse across the huge planted field. This speaks to the lack of precipitation during the growing season here in Spain.

We continue to see memorials placed along the paths as we continue our journey.

The walk today which is 19kms runs along side of the secondary road into our next destination.

Earth root cellars continue to exist. These originally were used for wine making and aging back in the day.

A spare set of sandals have been donated which another pilgrim may find as an upgrade to their tired footwear. Most likely the owners wanted to lighten their back pack

Today was an easy walk- picture taken by the towns marker. As we entered Mansilla we have this pilgrim monument of a pilgrim couple

As we were biding our time to check into our hotel ( arrived in town at 11:30am and check in set for 2 pm) we found a cafe for a cool radler beer. This life size chess set was in the adjacent lot. Would love to have seen it in action.

An artist had a different take on the Camino scallop shell design - very unique

We attended the local church for a noon day blessing and then returned to our hotel you see in the picture

I have included a picture of my Camino passport which is stamped once daily by our hotel personnel. We have to show this in Santiago to prove we actually walked the Camino in order to be granted our Camino certificate

Good day- looking forward to seeing Leon on Monday as this was my staring point 5 years ago

Buen Camino
