Day 16 May 17 Camino 2022

Day 16 May 17 of the Camino 2022

We left Castrojriz this morning at 8:00 am for the 25 km walk to Fromista

As we descended into the valley we quickly observed the uphill climb the guide book warmed us of being 100 meters

The climb for the most part was gradual however reaching the top we all wondered how we faced the 1200 meter climb over the Pyrenees on our first day back on May 2nd

Reaching the top I had my picture taken with the Camino marker

We continue to pass over beautiful medieval style bridges on the Camino

The paths are often marked with numerous varieties of wild flowers which create a wonderful distraction to what may be a less interesting section of trail

Someone’s artistic flair welcomed us into our first town. We continue to enjoy such colourful expressions of art.

Mile marker 424  let us know we will soon (tomorrow) be passing the halfway point in kms of the St James Way.

The man made canal was made originally to aid the farmers in getting their grain to the port for market. According to the history, although built, never was utilized. The canal does serve as a water source for the field irrigation.

We arrived in Fromista at 3 pm enjoying yet another perfect weather day as we walked for the third day across the Meseta. We have another six days walking between 18 - 22 kms daily till we reach Leon which was my starting point five years ago.

All is well with our group and those of whom we have befriended from around the world who we meet regularly over the daily walks

Till tomorrow

Buen Camino
