Day 13 May 14 2nd instalment
2nd instalment of Day 13 May 14 in Burgos
We think our lives are the end all some time and doing Genealogy tracing our family back a couple generations is neat
Well one of the unique learnings thus has been the discover of a town named Atapuerca and the discoveries made and still being made on our earlier humanity
We visited the Museo de la Evolucion on Saturday which is totally devoted to the discoveries of the towns archeological findings
They have discovered and have some 30 skeletal remains that provide scientific verification a form of human existence dates back over 1 million years
They have discovered a series of sink holes / caves that were created as far back as 2.5 million years ago from the underground water eroding the limestone
These spaces over time became the shelter for man and beast and in time silted in and were closed off
In the late 19th century a firm constructed a mining railway through this region cutting into the grade as deep as 18 meters and thus uncovering these sink holes / caves
The exploration did not get full traction until around 1978 and the region is listed as an INESCO site
Today there are up to 40 working on this site to continue the research
This was definitely a learning for myself
Now you know more of our human story
