Day 12 May 13 Camino 2022

Again prayers answered as it rained over night and dry walking yet another day - 12 for 12 / our luck and good fortune has been much appreciated

We left San Juan at 7 am as we had a bag breakfast option today or the other option was to wait for the kitchen to open at 9am

Off we went into the fog - which translates for a more comfortable temperature - high was 21 deg

The first part was a nice quiet treed path where we came across some free range horses. By their appearance I would say they were domestic

The walking path ranged from easy walking leaf packed to unbelievable uphill rock / ledge / and 6-8 inch round stone. This was most of our 200 m uphill challenge this morning making us all appreciate the better groomed paths which followed

Along the upper heights we came across a series of vertical stones which would remind you of Stonehenge - it is a monument commemorating the famous battle which saw the end of King El Fin Del Rey ( I guess I have some homework to do)

Further up we arrived at the Cruz de Matagunde which is somewhat similar to the Cruz de Fierro we will see towards the end of the Camino

As we are entering Burgos we could not help to notice the largest Camino sign yet on this trek

Very hungry - bagged breakfast only goes so far - and we have been waking some 22 kms - the city’s Burger King advertisement was inviting. Arriving at the location 1/2 hour later to be provided an option for fast food Burger King or MacDonalds. The latter won out. After 12 days of Spanish food it was good to get some grease and calories.

As one walks around the heart of the city there are a number of bronze statues which I expect have their own story to tell.

My evening incorporated Mass at the Catholic Church - I do not have any grasp on the language but follow along in my head the BCP HC. I would say there were about 75 attending

Today was a relatively easy walk having had an early start and cooler temperatures

We are staying a full day in Burgos ( rest day) leaving on Sunday morning for Hornillos del Camino a 21 km stroll

We will say goodby to our pilgrim partner Paul tomorrow as he heads home through London UK then on to BC. We will be left with the four of us all destined for Santiago - or bust - arrival date set for June 6

Lots of limping pilgrims- as for I - everything is well managed

Buen Camino
